Cooking and Baking Is Fun
by Isabel

A few days before the Maya Kitchen cooking class, I expected it to be a class where you'll be making the food individually. Earlier, I found out that it's a group effort. I learned a lot of things. One of the things I learnt earlier was that in cooking a full meal for guests, family, or even for yourself is that we should start with whatever takes the most time to prepare so that when you're almost done, you don't have to cram the rest of it up. Another thing is that a chef always keeps the kitchen clean, which means that you have to clean up your mess as you make the food.

We started making the S'mores Brownies made from scratch. It turned out to be easy consisting of just flour, unsweetened chocolate squares, corn syrup, butter, eggs, brown sugar and vanilla. For the S'mores part of the Brownies, all you need is to top off your brownies with Grahams or any cookie that you like, walnuts and marshmallows. Afterwards, we did our Salted Caramel Sauce and Hot Fudge or Chocolate Sauce. When making caramel, it's best that you use white sugar so that you'll easily be able to know if it's burnt or if it's time to let it cool off.

After preparing the desert, we started making our Cheese-Stuffed Burgers and Cajun Mojos. Like our desert, it's simple. For the burger, it's like any normal burger except for the fact there's cheese inside the patty. Then for the Mojos, you have to deep fry the potato slices until it turns golden brown. Yummy!

The most fun part in this cooking class is that you don't only get to prepare your food with your groupmates, but also have fun in styling the food where your food styling will eventually be messed up.

After the first day, I look forward to the remaining three days to learn more about what cooking and having fun with my new friends.
