BAGUIO: Pearl Meat Shop Restaurant

We discovered Pearl Meat Shop Restaurant during our vacay in Baguio last April. Its about several meters away from the 6-storey Good Taste along Carino Street. Thanks to my family's shared love for KDramas, its easy for us to agree on where to dine. Of course, we also consider the restaurant's authenticity and Pearl Meat Shop didn't disappoint. In fact, the first time we dined there, its like we've been transported to Korea because most of the diners were Koreans.

Aside from being a popular ssamgyupsal restaurant, they also sell frozen meat, hence, meat shop. If you are not fond of grilling your own food nor smelling like grilled meat, then this restaurant is not for you. But for the more adventurous type, pairing your order of ssamgyupsal with a bottle of soju is divine. The resto doesn't serve dessert though so its either who bring in some candies or chocolates, or go to a dessert place after the meal.

This is how the place looks like. Under each table is an LPG tank connected to the stove on top of your table.

We had three orders of thin slices beef (Chadol baki), that costs P250 for 100g order.

Every order comes with lettuce, sesame leaves (not in photo), kimchi, bean paste, raw garlic, raddish, and leek and scallion side dish (see first photo). It also comes with a tofu soup that tastes so good against the cold Baguio weather (went to Baguio this August and the rain makes it cold). You can ask for refills of lettuce, kimchi, etc.

For the uninitiated, after grilling the meat, you place it in the lettuce leaf, add some kimchi, raddish or scallions, or you can add some rice, too, then wrap the lettuce and plop it in your mouth. Yum! Btw, you can also grill the garlic or eat it raw, your choice.

And because a meal is not complete without rice, daughter and hubby ordered a cup each. A cup costs P50 which I think is expensive but then, its not your usual white rice but red or purple rice (whichever is available in the kitchen).
