Yakitori At Its Best: Nanbantei Of Tokyo

Yakitori, or the yummy bites of meat, seafood, or vegetables served hot off the grill has become so popular that almost every Japanese restaurant has it due to popular demand. But did you know that Nanbantei of Tokyo has been serving yakitori for more than a decade now?

We frequent the branch in Greenbelt and has spent many happy food memories there like having a love affair with the aspara maki and grilled corn (yes, grilled corn!).

Then just a couple of months ago, I espied a branch in BHS Central BGC and then daughter and I found ourselves going there and trying out their new yakitoris and cocktail drinks. *** daughter skipped the cocktail drinks, of course. ;)

The branch in BGC is definitely bigger and spacious than the one in Greenbelt. As in most Japanese restaurants, the interiors are simple and minimalist.

This vegetable sticks are a Nanbantei trademark. It comes with a delicious brown dip (I don't know why I still haven't asked till now what it is).

Shiitake Mushroom Salad. Served fresh on a bed of lettuce and other veggies, it comes with a yummy sesame dressing.

Buta Negi. Crunchy pork slices and leeks. A healthy combination. This reminds me greatly of my favorite aspara maki although daughter said she likes this better (now). She has this eating fascination with leeks, that's why.

Shrimp With Bacon. Two mouthwatering pairings that is simply irresistible.

Gyu-Tan. This is grilled ox tongue (lengua). I was a bit skeptical since I haven't eaten ox tongue in grilled form but curiousity won over and daughter and I are smitten. The "meat" is soft and rubbed with salt and garlic to bring out the flavor. Highly recommended yakitori. :)

Nanbantei also has the Samurai Sets which only costs P888. This is good for 3 pax, and includes 3 gohan (rice), 3 miso soup, 5 yakitoris, and tempura, salad or tori karaage.

Another new item on the menu are the refreshing cocktail drinks that uses premium ingredients. There's Hibiscus Mojito, Malibu Midori, Japanese Mojito, Gin Basil and Fresh Rita. I specifically like Hibiscus Mojito and Japanese Mojito (both are sweet and refreshing and has the right punch).

Pair the drinks with your yakitori choices and you're all set. Kampai !!!

Of course, a meal is not complete without dessert. Daughter and I shared this Green Tea Ice Cream. Two thumbs up for its "matcha" goodness. If you are craving for real green tea ice cream, this is it. No kidding.
